Who must comply with HOS regulations?

HOS regulations apply to drivers and carriers operating CMVs in interstate commerce.

• Vehicles weighing 10,001 pounds or more, including cargo.

• Vehicles transporting hazardous materials requiring placards.

• Passenger vehicles designed to carry 9 or more passengers (for compensation) or 16 or more passengers (not for compensation).

Exemptions:

• Short-haul drivers operating within a 150 air-mile radius may qualify for less restrictive rules.

• Certain agricultural and logging vehicles are exempt under specific conditions.
