What is personal conveyance, and how is it logged?
Personal conveyance refers to the use of a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) for non-business-related activities.
- Examples: Driving to a hotel or home after completing work, or running personal errands when off-duty.
- Rules for logging: Logged as 'off-duty' time in the ELD system. Cannot be used to further a load or reposition a truck for business purposes.
- FMCSA does not impose mileage or time limits, but usage must comply with company policies.
Personal conveyance gives drivers flexibility for personal activities without affecting HOS compliance.
